Tour the Musanze Caves

Inside, the caves remain dark and tranquil, with only faint rays of sunlight filtering through. You will need a headlamp to navigate safely and capture excellent photographs. Most tours begin at around 7:00 a.m., with arrivals made through Musanze. To participate, visitors must be at least 12 years old and hold a valid permit issued by the Rwanda Development Board. The permits are priced as follows:

Although the Musanze Caves are open throughout the year, the best time to visit is during the dry season. Sunshine during these months enhances visibility inside the caves, while drier ground makes hiking and walking more comfortable. The dry seasons typically occur from December to February and from June to August.
How to Get There
You can reach the Musanze Caves from Kigali by road. The journey covers about 96 kilometers northwest of the city and takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Travelers may choose either public or private transport, with private vehicles offering more convenience. Options include 4×4 safari vehicles, saloon cars, minibuses, or other comfortable means depending on budget and preference.
For a faster option, air transport is available. A helicopter flight from Kigali International Airport to Musanze airstrip takes around 30 minutes. From there, visitors can arrange ground transportation to the caves or their accommodation.
