Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

Mountain gorilla trekking is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences in Africa. After breakfast, you would traditionally proceed to Virunga National Park for a briefing before entering the forest in search of mountain gorillas.

Accompanied by experienced park guides and trackers, you would follow forest trails while learning about the behaviour, feeding habits and conservation of these endangered primates. The trek can take several hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family.

Once the gorillas are located, visitors are traditionally allowed one hour to observe them in their natural environment. During this time, you may see young gorillas playing, mothers caring for their babies and dominant silverbacks protecting their families.

However, Virunga National Park‘s gorilla trekking activities are currently closed until further notice. Therefore, Experiya Tour Company must confirm reopening and security arrangements before including this experience in a bookable itinerary.

Day 3: Return to Rwanda and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will leave the Congo region and travel back towards Rwanda through an approved border crossing. Your driver-guide will assist with the transfer and necessary immigration arrangements.

As you travel, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Rwanda’s countryside. The landscape features green hills, terraced farms, small villages and beautiful mountain views.

Upon arrival in Musanze, you will check into your lodge near Volcanoes National Park. This destination is particularly famous for protecting endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
